Devin Soliz is a 2020 1B/RHP, 3B with a 6-2 230 lb. frame from Riverside, CA who attends John W. North High School. Large, broad shouldered build with present strength proportioned throughout frame, incorporates strength well into overall game. Primary first baseman, moves well off the bag and shows athleticism to action, maintains balance and fields the ball out front, works into a full arm action and shows accuracy across while working on top of the baseball. Also pitched, side step moving into a leg lift up to belt; hands stay close through windup with tight hand break working to a three-quarters release point. Can continue to incorporate additional lower half into drive; fastball topped out at 80 mph with short running life down in the zone. Pitched to contact and threw strikes, curveball shows 11-5 shape, slows arm action on release. Righthanded hitter, begins with an open stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing at the plate. Stays short and direct to the ball with hands, shows a simple swing with strength to hands and quickness through the zone. Does a nice job of getting closed moving into contact, subtle shift with leverage to path out front and nice jump off the barrel when squared. Very good student.
