Isaias Castaneda is a 2021 1B/OF with a 5-8 120 lb. frame from Coachella, CA who attends La Quinta. Compact frame with a lean, athletic build. Frame projects for additional strength. Primary first baseman with quick, high energy footwork while moving off the bag and centering the baseball. Funnels out front and worked through exchange quickly. Released from a three-quarters slot producing accurate carry to the bag at 75 miles per hour. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing aggressive footwork while closing to and working through the baseball. Funnels the baseball off to side and maintained momentum towards target. Released from a three-quarters slot creating accurate, on lien carry at 81 miles per hour. Left handed hitter with an upright, open stance and leg lift trigger. Works to contact with linear lower half actions. Loose hand path to baseball with a level, line drive barrel plane through extension. Flashed the ability to create some barrel whip through the zone with bat speed. Primarily looked to work the ball to the middle of the field and pull side gap. Tools will continue to develop with maturity and repetition. Good student as well.
