Layne Cross is a 2022 SS/RHP, 3B with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from Brandon, MS who attends Northwest Rankin. Medium and slender frame with lots of room to fill throughout. Ran a 7.27 second 60 yard dash. Primary shortstop, worked out in the infield with athletic footwork, fields the baseball in a good gathering position, loose arm across and flashes arm strength, topped out at 79 mph across the diamond. Secondary right-handed pitcher, starts his delivery with a side step up to a belt high leg lift, takes his arm back to a compact arm action up to a high ¾ arm slot, works quickly and stays online with his operation, fastball peaks at 77 mph, will lower the arm slot slightly when throwing his curveball, 11-5 shape and good depth to the breaking ball. Right-handed hitter, wide based stance with a high hand set in the box, toe tap trigger with quickness to his hands, stays inside the baseball with intent to his path, loud contact when getting extended through impact.
