Izhar Vargas Maldonado is a 2018 C/1B with a 5-9 205 lb. frame from Isabela, PR who attends Carlos Beltran Baseball Academy. Medium frame with strong, physical present build--good strength throughout. Ran 60 yard dash in 8.00 seconds. Sets up to hit from slightly open stance, small stride but gets back even with hips, high back elbow, middle field approach with line drive swing plane, showed ability to work to all fields but best contact was back through the middle. Worked out behind the plate; showed good receiving skills with quick footwork through mechanics, has smoothness as a catcher, quick transfer, showed good accuracy down to 2nd base, clocked up to 74 mph. Blocked and received well in game as well. Good student.
