JJ Whitley is a 2019 RHP/OF with a 5-11 178 lb. frame from Chandler, AZ who attends Mountain Pointe. Medium frame with athletic build; ran 60 yard dash in 7.79 seconds. Primary righthanded pitcher, worked exclusively from the stretch, compact arm stroke through the back with good arm speed to high three quarters slot, good direction to delivery with balance throughout. Fastball worked 77-78 mph with slight cutting action, likes to throw the pitch up in the zone. Worked in curveball with 11/5 shape and hard, late biting action--a weapon pitch for him in any count. Also worked in changeup, displaying moderate feel for the pitch. Did a good job setting up hitters and working quickly. Good student.
