Jorge Baez Roig is a 2018 OF/1B, LHP with a 5-10 177 lb. frame from Yauco, PR who attends Puerto Rico BB Acad.. Medium frame with an athletic build. Frame projects to support additional size with strength. Primary outfielder with clean, sound lower half actions while closing to and working through the baseball. FLuid glove actions while funneling and stays on top of baseball well at release. Throws generated accurate carry to the bag topping at 80 miles per hour. Also worked out defensively from first base showing smooth paced, deliberate footwork while centering the baseball. Fields baseball cleanly out front and works through transfer with loose, smooth paced exchanges. Created good carry while throwing across the infield topping at 77 miles per hour. Left handed hitter with an upright, open stance and simple front side trigger. Creates slightly hand coil at load and works to contact on a direct path to contact with an uphill plane through extension. Flashed good fluidity through the zone with present bat speed at contact. Worked between the gap and consistently turned the barrel to contact creating hard line drive contact throughout batting practice. Also pitched working exclusively from the stretch. Utilized a large leg kick to gather and stays slightly flexed on back side at balance point. Works to the plate with drop and drive actions and lands at a slightly closed position. Released from a compact three-quarters arm slot producing occasional running action no arm side in the low 70's, topped at 72 miles per hour. Showed developing feel for a 1/7 curveball that had loose spin and occasional depth in the mid 60's. Primarily looked to work down in the zone with both pitches and change eye level up in the zone late in counts. Good student as well.
