2020 Coastal Prospect Showcase
John Simmons is a 2023 3B/RHP/IF with a 6-0 175 lb. frame from Forest, VA who attends Liberty Christian. Tall and lean young build with lots of physical development remaining. Left handed hitter, hits from a spread stance with a further stride into contact, loads his hands well and really gets his lower half into his swing, swing path is short and direct with good present bat speed, swung the bat exceptionally well in the games and really showed his pull power potential. 7.00 runner, has smooth and easy athletic movements in the infield, light on his feet and changes direction well, quick glove to hand transfer, plenty of arm strength, primary third baseman but looks very capable of playing the middle infield with his athleticism and skills. Also pitched, has a full wind up with a low tension arm action with good extension out front. Fastball topped out at 82 mph with good command and some running action. Still developing feel for his secondary pitches, tends to slow his arm at release but threw them for strikes. Very good athlete who is going to keep getting better. Excellent student.
