Amaury Samalot is a 2019 C/RHP with a 5-7 170 lb. frame from North Chili, NY who attends Churchville-Chili Senior. Compact frame with a medium build and some strength. Primary catcher with a balanced stance while setting up to receive. Gains some ground towards the bag with clean, smooth paced footwork. Loose, fluid exchanges while working through transfer and released form a compact arm slot. Topped at 72 miles per hour, best workout pop time of 2.10. Right handed hitter with a spread, even stance. Stays on back side throughout with rotational lower half actions to contact. Loose path with a level, line drive barrel plane through extension. Primarily looked to work to the middle of the field and consistently found the barrel throughout batting practice. Flashed good control and feel for the barrel as well showing the willingness to work the other way. Also pitched showing a simple rock step to leg lift delivery. Smooth paced tempo to gather and stays balanced on back side. Generated some front side swing while working to the plate but lands in line at finish and carries momentum to the plate. Compact arm circle at separation and released from a three-quarters arm slot. Consistently filled the zone with a fastball offering that flashed some arm side run in the mid 70's, topped at 76 miles per hour. Tends to slow arm speed with a changeup offering that hand occasional sink in the mid 60's. Tools will continue to develop with physical maturity and repetition. Very good student.
