Tyler Cobb is a 2017 LHP/OF with a 6-2 175 lb. frame from Cypress, CA who attends Western. Large frame with wiry strength and long limbs. Projects for additional size with strength throughout frame. Ran a 7.52 sixty yard dash. Primary left handed pitcher, works exclusively from the stretch with a very closed set showing pocket and numbers before gather. Creates additional coil while working to balance point. Hips release to the plate with rotational actions. Does a good job of getting front hip back on line while driving to the plate. Creates a deep arm stab back at separation with slight hook while releasing from a compact, three-quarters arm slot. Hides baseball well with a deceptive delivery. Fastball has occasional running action in the low 80's, topped at 84 mph. Effectively worked in on hitters with fastball offering creating weak contact. Flashed a slider that had good spin and tilt when located down in the strike zone. Developing command of the edges but effectively filled the strike zone with each pitch. Worked out defensively from the outfield showing aggresive actions while closing on the baseball. Smooth glove actions while working through transition with deliberate glove to hand exchanges. Releases from a compact, three-quarters arm slot that produces good whip through finish. Throws had downhill angle to the bag with some carry and accuracy, topped at 84 mph from the outfield. Left handed hitter with a balanced, slightly open stance and high back elbow set. Lower half laucnhes with rotational actions and occasional shift into contact. Front side creates slight coil and wrap at load. Barrel comes through the zone on a level, line drive plane. Flashed the ability to drop barrel head on pitches down in the zone generating solid bat speed and strength. Repeats swing mechanics well with a consistent barrel path. Projects for additional pop with continue physical development. Good two way prospect. Good student. Named to 2016 West Academic Showcase Top Prospect List.
