Evan Katz is a 2017 RHP/ with a 6-3 170 lb. frame from Del Mar, CA who attends Torrey Pines. Large frame with a lean build and wiry strength. Body has plenty of room for additional size and strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step delivery. Smooth tempo throughout offering with tall and fall mechanics to the plate. Creates some downhill angle while driving to the plate, landing at a slightly closed position. Shows some cross body action with a high energy release from a three-quarters arm slot. Fastball came out of hand cleanly ranging in the mid to upper 70's, topped at 78 mph. Curveball had softer spin with some break down in the zone in the mid 60's. Curveball started to show sharper depth when working to glove side. Consistently filled the strike zone with both pitches with the ability to work both edges at times. Kept the baseball down in the strike zone inducing weak groundball contact and quick outs. Projects for additional velocity with continued physical development and mechanical refinement. Very good student as well.
