E.J. Kelso is a 2018 OF/LHP with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from Louisville, KY who attends Atherton. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 6.92 sixty yard dash. Primary outfielder, shows aggressive footwork while closing to the baseball. Funnels baseball off to side cleanly while working through baseball. Clean glove to hand exchanges while working through transfer. Full arm action at releases that produced accurate, on line carry the bag topping at 79 mph. Left handed hitter with a spread, open stance and high back elbow set. Compact, direct path to contact creating a line drive plane through extension. Flashed good bat speed with the line drive path producing consistent raising liners between the outfield gaps. Will shows an inside path to contact at times producing line drive, ground ball contact to the opposite field. Also pitched showing a short rock step into a high leg kick. Generates some coil at gather showing back pocket. Does a solid job of generating momentum towards the plate and creating on line direction. Clears hips well while while rotating to release. Releases from an extended three-quarters arm slot that shows good life to each side of the plate. Consistently filled the zone with a fastball that topped at 74 mph. Curveball has some good depth with softer spin. Flashed a changeup that has fading action with a deceptive arm speed that matches fastball offering. Showed the ability to throw all three pitches for strikes. Flashed solid athletic ability while coming off the mound to field position. Very good student as well.
