Kelsen Johnson is a 2021 C/RHP/MIF with a 5-8 165 lb. frame from Lithia, FL who attends Newsome High School. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and a strong build proportioned well throughout frame. Ran a 7.13 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, lower set behind the plate, receives the ball out front, quick transfer into full arm action, gains short ground with lower half and projects with additional refinement to footwork, short and compact arm action with tight finish, gets tall at release. Takes short steps moving to the ball in the infield, similar compact arm action, fields the ball out front, ball comes out of hand well across diamond and shows accuracy. Also pitched, works to a lower release point and able to induce ground ball contact with life, topped out at 76 mph and throws strikes with fastball while showing sinking life down in zone. Projects with additional lower half, short depth on curveball and showed a feel for low-60 mph pitch. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate. Simple swing mechanics and repeats them well, short stroke with quick hands. Stays inside the ball with hands, direct path and ball comes off the barrel, projects with additional extension out front.
