James Newlands is a 2018 OF/3B, MIF with a 5-11 163 lb. frame from Mount Pleasant, SC who attends Porter-Gaud. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Ran a 7.17 sixty-yard dash. Primary outfielder with smooth, clean lower half actions while closing to the baseball. Generated good momentum to the bag with loose, clean exchanges while working through transfer. Medium arm circle and released from a compact three-quarters arm slot topping at 82 miles per hour. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing clean, sound actions while moving through the baseball. Funnels out front and works through exchange well. Flashed some range to each side with developing fluidity while throwing on the run. Created some carry to the bag topping at 76 miles per hour. Left handed hitter with a balanced, even stance and simple front side trigger. Stays balanced throughout swing with rotational lower half actions. Inside path to contact with a line drive plane through extension. Worked to the middle of the field throughout batting practice with fluidity. Did flashed the barrel control to work the baseball the other way as well. Good student.
