2016 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
Cole Coffin is a 2017 1B with a 6-3 175 lb. frame from West Des Moines, IA who attends Dowling Catholic HS. Large frame with a lean, athletic build. Plenty of room for additional size with strength. Right handed hitter with a slightly open, upright stance. Compact swing plane to the inside of baseball that results in line drive contact to mid-field. Creates some lower half shift to contact and hits of a slightly taller front side. Showed a mature approach at the play in games with a good knowledge of the strike zone. Relaxed presence at the plate in games. Worked out defensively at first base. Showed smooth glove actions while funneling out front. Accurate across infield with a smooth arm action, topped at 76 mph. Light on feet around bag and shows plus range to both side for size. Projects well physically and should continue to develop with physical maturity. Very good student as well.
