2005 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Jason Malefakis is a 2007 OF/1B from Horace Mann in Riverdale, NY, with a 5'9'', 150 lb. frame. He showed a loose arm from the outfield and threw 75 mph during outfield drills. He could improve his arm strength by being more directional in his release. He moved to balls well in the outfield and ran the 60 in 7.44. Malefakis hits from an open stance with a pre-load hip action. He stays tall during his swing with little weight transfer and tends to like the ball up in the strike zone. Malefakis showed good hand strength for his age and size and showed some gap to gap power. He hits the ball mostly to the middle of the field with a line drive swing plane. He has some bat speed now that should improve with better balance and rhythm into the ball. Malefakis has the tools to be a pretty good hitter.
