Richard Coffman is a 2017 C/1B with a 6-1 183 lb. frame from Lakewood, CA who attends Lakewood HS. Large frame with a strong, athletic build. Right handed hitter with a straight stance and slight front side coil at load. Creates some shift into contact with rotational lower half actions. Primarily uses a mid-field approach paired with a simple, compact line drive swing plane. Creates solid bat speed and back spin to the gaps when extending through contact. Stays balanced throughtout contact. Worked out defensively from behind the plate showing a slightly higher set. Creates good momentum to bag while gaining ground. Lower arm cirlce and glove to hand exchanges while working through transition. Ball comes out of had cleanly from a three-quarters arm slot topping at 72 mph. Best workout pop time of 2.08. Softer hands while receiving with the ability to frame pitches well on the edges. Athletic lower half with good lateral range while blocking.
