Brett Barrera is a 2019 SS with a 6-2 175 lb. frame from Etiwanda, CA who attends Los Osos High School. Medium, athletic frame with broad shoulders and a strong build, has additional room to fill throughout moving forward. Primary shortstop, shows fluidity to actions moving towards the ball, sound fundamentals, fields the ball out front, takes an extra step moving into release, gets on top of throws from an over-the-top slot, shows accuracy acrsoss the diamond with solid arm strength, quick transfer out of glove, sound footwork and actions. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate, utilizes a double toe tap trigger for timing at start of swing. Full swing path through the zone and shows hand speed through the zone with extension out front. Works the middle and pull side parts of field and shows occasional leverage at point of contact, easy and loose swing, shows components to swing and projects well. Excellent student.
