Johnny Castagnozzi is a 2020 SS/3B with a 6-2 188 lb. frame from Massapequa Park, NY who attends Massapequa HS. Extra-large, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present strength to build, additional room to fill until physical maturity. Primary shortstop, soft hands out front and shows a clean funnel, maintains balance through actions and moves well on the charge, solid arm strength across the diamond and shows tools that project well to stay on the left side, extra step moving through release with a short arm action on throws. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a simple gliding trigger for timing moving into contact. Remains balanced through swing and does a nice job of getting extended out front. Clean swing path through the zone with leverage and shows jump off the barrel when squared and on time, nice barrel skills. Good student. Verbal commitment to North Carolina.
