Derek Freed is a 2017 SS/RHP, 2B with a 6-2 145 lb. frame from Souderton, PA who attends Souderton Area. Large frame with slender present build, wiry strength and athleticism throughout with excellent projection remaining on frame. Posted a 7.41 seconds 60 yard dash time. Hits with high hand set and leg lift trigger, good natural loft in swing plane with good overall feel for the barrel, shifts weight well into contact and generates solid bat speed, squared the ball up consistently and on a line, will develop more and more power with continued physical development, good overall hitting tools. Showed good first step defensively with solid fielding actions, fielded cleanly with consistency and transferred well, showed accurate arm across the diamond with IF velocity topping at 75 MPH. Pitched as well, high leg lift into delivery, short arm action with deception, 3/4 slot, balanced throughout delivery, gets on top of FB and generates sink/run, velo worked 74-78, pounded bottom of the zone with FB, showed CB with 11/5 shape and solid depth, did good job throwing strikes with both pitches and keeping hitters off balance. Good student.
