Philip Basham is a 2006 catcher from Centennial High School in Alpharetta, GA, with a 6'3'', 225 lb. frame. He has a big, strong frame with present power in his body. Defensively he has a strong arm (75 mph) behind the plate with nice transfers and pop times consistently under 2.00. At the plate the right handed hitter swings from a wide base with a straight away stance. Basham has raw power and gets great leverage at contact with extension out front. The ball jumps of his bat and he will be a middle of the order run producer at the next level. Basham is a smart hitter and doesn't chase bad pitches and get himself out. He also has the hands to go with a pitch and drive the ball the opposite way. Good power upside from a catcher is always needed, and Basham has it.
