Joshua Merced is a 2019 OF/RHP, OF with a 6-1 180 lb. frame from Miramar, FL who attends St. Thomas Aquinas. Medium frame with longer limbs and a solid build. Projects for additional strength. Primary outfielder with smooth paced, clean footwork while closing to and working through the baseball. Funnels baseball and worked through exchange with developing fluidity. Got the baseball out quickly producing some carry to the bag at 74 miles per hour. Also worked out defensively from first base displaying sound footwork while centering the baseball and working off the bag. Funnels well and worked through exchange quickly. Created some accurate carry to the bag while throwing across the infield at 73 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and simple front side trigger. Stays on back side and works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Loose, extended path to contact with a smooth, slightly lifted barrel plane through extension. Displayed good feel for the barrel with the ability to work to the ball to all fields. Consistently drove the baseball to the middle of the field on a line showing the strength to split the gaps when squared. Good student as well.
