Jake Lutz is a 2020 SS/RHP/2B with a 5-10 145 lb. frame from River Vale, NJ who attends Pascack Valley HS. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Primary shortstop with quick, athletic footwork while surrounding and working through the baseball. Flashed solid range with good first step quickness when working to each side. Funneled the baseball out front with clean, fundamental glove actions and worked through transfer efficiently. Primarily released from a mid three-quarters arm slot, but showed the ability to throw while on the run and from multiple arm angle with accuracy. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and toe tap trigger. Aggressively shifts into contact with linear lower half actions. Will work to a taller front side at contact but consistently repeated a level, line drive plane through extension. Generated good jump off the barrel with carry to the pull side gap when turning barrel to contact with present bat speed. Eye level tends to alter at times, but was able to consistently barrel contact throughout batting practice. Very good student as well. Tools will continue to develop with maturity and repetition.
