Colby Shimmel is a 2016 RHP/3B, 1B with a 6-4 220 lb. frame from Windsor, PA who attends Eastern York. Shimmel has a large build with present strength throughout frame. Good downhill plane from a high 3/4 arm slot with good life on fastball to his arm side. Pounds the strike zone with his fastball and can pitch upstairs with a purpose. Has quick tempo and works quickly, mixes in a curveball with 11/5 shape with good tight spin and late break. Curveballs were in teh 67-72 range with the higher velos having shorter break. Hit from a square stance with a high hand set to start. Has power approach with loud contact. Has strength and creates good leverage in swing. Swing is fluid but will tend to drift a bit to front side. Best contact is to pull side gap but showed gap to gap approach. Defensively, gets low fielding and fields ball out front, has low release but tends to stand to high to throw. Athletic for size and has tools to develop. Outstanding Student.
