Brian Marquez is a 2017 LHP with a 6-2 205 lb. frame from San Diego, CA who attends Rancho Bernardo HS. Large frame with a strong, athletic build with broad shoulders. Projects for additional strength. Left handed pitcher with a simple leg lift delivery. Creates slight top half shoulder roll at gathers. Produces good arm speed with a high energy, high three-quarters arm slot through extension. Drives on line while creating some downhill angle to the plate. Fastball has some arm side life to glove side, topping at 82 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape with tight spin and good depth down in the zone. Also flashed a changeup with consistent arm speed to fastball in the mid 70's. Changeup has some arm side diving action when located down in the strike zone. Changed speed and mixed pitches well to keep hitters off balance. Consistently pounded the zone with all pitches, command of the edges continued to improve with each inning. Left handed hitter with a tall, narrow stance and high back elbow slot at load. Creates some shift into contact with rotational lower half actions. Hands launch on a compact plane with natural lift through contact. Primarily uses a mid-field approach and flashes solid bat speed at times. Good student as well.
