Matty Bapst is a 2018 C with a 6-0 185 lb. frame from Cumming, GA who attends South Forsyth HS. Medium frame with a strong, athletic build. Projects for additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Ran a 7.58 sixty-yard dash. Primary catcher with a slightly high set while receiving. Gains grounds towards the bag while working out of crouch. Clean glove to hand exchanges through transfer and showed good arm strength to the bag, topped at 76 miles per hour. Throws generated good on line carry to the bag as well. Best workout pop time of 1.84. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and leg lift trigger. Hands load back around shoulders slightly, building torque. Lower half has linear actions into contact generating good shift. Works to a tall front side at contact with a loose, naturally lifted swing plane through extension. Primarily showed a gap to gap approach but flashed the hand skills to turn barrel to contact and produce hard pull side contact when front side trigger is on time. Good student as well.
