Steven Bender is a 2017 RHP with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Lexington, KY who attends Lexington Catholic. Medium frame with an athletic build and wiry strength. Projects for additional size with strength. Right handed pitcher with a simple side step to leg lift delivery. Creates slight arm hook at back of arm circle while separating. Clean arm accelerates while working through finish. Generates some torque in delivery with front hip coil showing back pocket. Produces good downhill plane to the plate when staying on top of delivery. Lower have stays on line with good momentum through to the plate at finish. Fastball has good life in the low to mid 80's with occasional sinking action, topped at 85 mph. Curveball had 12/6 shape with good spin and depth. Produces some spinal tilt to get on top of curveball offering. Showed good feel for changeup in the upper 60's. Maintains arm speed with changeup creating good deception. Shows very good command with the fastball, consistently pounded the bottom of the strike zone with the ability to locate to both edges as well. Very good student. Named to the 2016 Ohio Valley Showcase Top Prospect List.
