Cody Erikson is a 2016 SS/RHP/3B with a 5-11 170 lb. frame from Sweeny, TX who attends Sweeny HS. Lean well proportioned athletic build, long arms, good physical projection. 7.03 runner, polished defender at shortstop, quick release on throws that emphasizes getting rid of the ball over raw arm strength, plays smoothly and confidently on the move at shortstop, like the overall actions and defensive projection, can play the middle infield at the next level with normal development. Right handed hitter, spread stance with some bat wrap that creates length, long smooth swing that has leverage and good extension out front, uses lower half well, beginnings of some real bat speed and strength, type of swing that will get more effective with additional strength, will need to learn to recognize breaking balls more effectively. Also pitched, high energy delivery, high 3/4's arm action and gets downhill well. Fastball topped at 83 mph with good angle and arm side running action, slider was quality second pitch when released properly with late bite and good 2-plane tilt. Defense will carry him but the bat has potential as well. Excellent student.
