2005 South Top Prospect Showcase
Wieck is a slender 6-0, 160 lb right handed pitcher from Texas. He has a long, loose arm action with very good arm speed. Wieck's delivery is well balanced and he has some effort at release. His fastball topped out at 84 mph and there looks like there is plenty more there as he fills out his slender frame and adds strength. Wieck's curveball was 63 mph with good spin and a deep 2-plane break. A pitching coach in the future will probably add a shorter, harder curveball to Wieck's collection of pitches. We didn't see a change up. Wieck has good present stuff that was difficult for the hitters to make solid contact with and he should continue to improve. He might be a late bloomer who takes a very big step forward shortly. Good follow. Also an outstanding student.
