Jose Varela is a 2017 SS/3B with a 6-2 185 lb. frame from Miami, FL who attends Somerset Academy Charter HS. Has a large frame, athletic build with sign of strength throughout. Posted a 7.31 second sixty yard dash. From the infield, has easy and fluid actions to the baseball and is slick with the glove work. Showed impressive arm strength on throws across that were online and accurate. At the plate, right-handed hitter that starts with a narrow, upright stance. Has good strength in his swing with good leverage, barrel whip, and pop off the barrel. Showed present power and projects for more down the road. Good student. Named to 2016 Florida Top Prospect List.
