Phillip Ahern is a 2016 LHP with a 6-1 175 lb. frame from Austin, TX who attends Vandegrift. Large, athletic build with a long and lean build with present strength, projects for more with room to fill out. Primary left-handed pitcher, whippy arm action through the backside with three-quarter arm slot and will drop down lower occasional. Side step into leg lift parallel to belt, does a nice job of incorporating lower half into drive towards plate. Ran fastball up to 85 mph, works comfortably to arm side and showed ability to get to glove side. Riding life to pitch with running life to arm side at times. Shows feel and pitchability, will vary shape to breaking ball. More slider shape with tilt at 72 mph while curveball shows depth and some 1-7 shape at 66 mph. Named to South Top Prospect List. Very good student.
