2016 Mid Atlantic Top Prospect Showcase
Matthew Heffernan is a 2017 2B with a 5-8 155 lb. frame from Cutchogue, NY who attends Mattituck High School. Young, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout. Ran a 7.41 60-yard dash. Primary second baseman, fields the ball out front and shows high energy to actions, quickness to footwork as well as balance, works through the ball nicely, compact arm action through the back and works to a higher slot, gets on top, shows some effort at release, arm strength will continue to develop. Lefthanded hitter, begins with a wide and open stance in the box, does a nice job of getting closed with high leg kick moving into contact. Pull side approach in the box and occasionally opens front side early and gets around the ball. Shows quickness to hands and the ability to impact the ball when extended out front with nice line drive contact coming off the barrel, generates bat speed through the zone, shows some feel for the barrel too. Good student.
