Nate Young is a 2017 C/1B/RHP with a 6-0 225 lb. frame from Peoria, AZ who attends Raymond S. Kellis HS. Large frame, strong-bodied, thick build with good present strength and physicality. Primary catcher, receives ball out in front, gains ground with feet and has a quick transfer, clocked as low as 2.00 on pop times, ball comes out of his hand well. Also worked out at first base, moves well on his feet, fields the ball out in front and shows solid footwork around the base. Right handed hitter, slightly open stance with wide base. High hands set, stays short to the ball and has a line-drive swing plane. Solid ability to use the entire field, slightly rotational, uses strength well in swing and shows some leverage at contact. Also pitches, has high leg lift delivery out of the stretch. Works to a high 3/4's arm slot, ball comes out of hand cleanly with extended arm-action. Fastball up to 79 mph, has short running life and is effective down in the strike zone. Best offspeed pitch is changeup, maintains good armspeed on it, plays well off of the fastball and shows late depth and fade. Still developing consistent feel for curveball, flashes late bite with some 11/5 shape. Excellent student.
