2005 South Underclass Showcase
Marvel is a 6-2, 190 lb junior catcher from Arkansas with very good all around athletic ability. He was the top catching prospect at the showcase and his athletic ability would make him a top prospect as an outfielder or corner infielder as well. Marvel ran the 60 in 6.98 and threw a strong 76 mph during catching drills with a best pop time of 1.98. He did a good job in the game receiving the ball and presenting a good target for his pitcher's. At the plate, Marvel hits from a wide stance with low hands to start his swing. He has a level swing with a bit of length to it but his strength enables him to generate very good bat speed. He made very consistent line drive pull contact and the ball jumped off his bat with authority. We got the impression that Marvel is still fairly raw skilled and is just beginning to start to tap into his physical talents as a baseball player. He could be a very high ceiling player and a top prospect eventually with the right development. Follow very closely. Marvel is also a good student. Named to the Top Prospect Game.
