2015 South Top Prospect Showcase
Jake Velasco is a 2016 SS with a 6-2 170 lb. frame from Austin, TX who attends Brentwood Christian. Large, athletic build with broad shoulders, projects well as strength is added throughout frame. Ran a 7.00 60-yard dash. Primary infielder, fields the ball out front, shows a quick arm action through the back and gets on top of throws for accuracy across. Longer release but solid arm strength and carry out of hand. Right-handed hitter, starts with a wide base and a high hand set at beginning of swing. Short path to the ball with quick hands and some whip to the barrel through the zone. Creates contact to all fields and showed ability to square up to opposite. Flashed extension out front with carry to either gap off barrel with long follow through to swing. Good student.
