2004 National Open Top Prospect Showcase
Victor Moreno is a raw but talented young left handed pitcher from Kissimmee, Florida, with excellent projection. He has a loose, lively body. Moreno throws from a full windup with a big leg lift and hip turn. It’s a kind of funky delivery that has some nice deception to it. The danger is that it sometimes hinders Moreno’s balance and ability to stay over the rubber. Moreno’s fastball topped out at 83 mph with some nice tailing action, and he did a very good job of throwing strikes early in the count. Moreno’s breaking ball was a 74 mph slider that flashed a sharp break, but was often a victim of varying release points. Moreno’s rawness shows in his defense, pickoff moves, and his breaking ball, but he has much more ability than he’s showing now. He could be a profitable project for a patient DI or Juco pitching coach. 6'1 lefty throwing 83 with much more to come. Victor is a good student.
