Daniel Payne is a 2012 LHP/1B with a 6-5 215 lb. frame from Pooler, GA who attends Calvary Day School. Very nice athletic build, plus present strength for age. Two way prospect, may have higher ceiling as position player. Short simple swing, repeats well, stays simple and direct to the ball, squares it up very well, line drive approach, consistent hard contact, good present bat speed. Athletic actions at first base, soft hands, quick feet, 7.23 runner. Over the top release pitching, tends to fall off on release. Fastball touched 81 mph, fairly straight, curveball best pitch with good bite and some depth, rare change up. More projection as a hitter. Good student. Named to the Top Prospect Team.
