2005 Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase
Ben Heggestad is a 2006 RHP/1B from Duluth, Minnesota, with a very projectable 6'7", 215 lb. frame. Heggestad has the type of body that will make scouts and college coaches take notice. He has a large frame that has room to gain much more strength. He throws from a 3/4 to high 3/4 arm slot and gets a good downward plane to the plate. Heggestad's arm works very well, and he has projectable velocity. His fastball topped out at 85 mph, and he threw across his body slightly which helped give him some life on his fastball, especially low and away to a right handed hitter. His best secondary pitch was his change up that had good sinking action at 73-74 mph. Heggestad also threw a 10 to 4 curveball that looked more like a slider with short breaking action. He sometimes rushes his pitches and drifts to the plate. He could gain more velocity and control if he would stay over the rubber longer. Heggestad has a great future and is a must follow. He is also a very good student.
