Welch is an "04" catcher/outfielder who can throw and hit. At 5'10/170 he looks athletic. He runs OK and throws well from both the outfield (83 mph) and behind the plate (2.09 pop with 74 mph velocity). He shows good feet and quickness behind the plate and he does a nice job of receiving. At the plate he excelled. This kid is one tough out and he really battles. He got good swings consistently showing excellent bat speed and balance. He was one of the best at staying back and hitting off speed pitches. And he hit the ball very hard all weekend. He looks like he just doesn't strike out much. Radford is a good student.
