2004 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Patrick Janssen is a 6'2", 185 lb. senior first baseman from Canada with some good athletic ability and present strength. Janssen ran 7.1 and showed some arm strength and quick feet at first base, and he profiles better at first look at third base or a corner outfield position. At the plate, Janssen hits from a narrow stance with a long stride that changes his eye level to the ball and costs him some of his power potential. You could see some pop in Janssen’s bat occasionally, but it wasn’t consistent. There is definitely room for him to improve with a different approach and Janssen undoubtedly gets his hands to the ball quicker with metal. Janssen also threw three innings from the mound during the showcase. His fastball was in the 76-79 mph range and his best pitch was a 71 mph slider that has some bite to it at times. Patrick is a very good student.
