Nicholas Ayers is a 2006, 5'8" right handed pitcher from Orange, Texas, with a ton of pitching moxy that makes up for his lack of size. In fact, he carries himself like he’d bristle pretty well the first time a coach said he was too short to pitch. Ayers has a strong lower half, and very sound, balanced pitching mechanics. He has a short arm circle in back, but accelerates his arm well and is very good out front. Not surprisingly, he throws strikes with all three pitches. Ayers' fastball was 81-83 mph with good life to it. His 66 mph curveball was a good pitch, with hard two-plane breaking action, and his 71 mph change up had good deception. Ayers showed an advanced knowledge of pitching, and cruised through his three innings of work without allowing a base runner. It’s possible that Ayers could add a couple mph of velocity in the next few years, but even without that, there are definitely college programs that he could perform well for at his current skill level.
