Michael Mendoza is a 2007 SS/P/3B with a 5'10'', 165 lb. frame from San Gabrial, CA, who attends Temple City HS. Mendoza has a lean and athletic frame with projection. Ran a solid sixty time, but showed better game speed on the bases and defensively. In the infield he comes to the ball well with fluid movements. Mendoza has soft hands with a quick release and arm strength across the diamond. During the games Mendoza showed range to his right, and turned some nice double plays. At the plate he hits from a straight away and upright stance. Stays balanced through his swing with a line drive swing plane. He takes a good aggressive swing on balls in the zone, and will hit line drives to all fields. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a short and quick arm. He stays balanced and inline to the plate, but his delivery is almost too quick. His fastball gets late life in the zone and topped out at 87 mph, while working in the 85-87 mph range. Mendoza also mixes in a 10/4 breaking ball at 75 mph with slider type break, and a 77 mph change. He throws strikes and has a live arm. Great upside to all-around game.

Michael Mendoza is a 2007 SS/P/3B from Temple City HS, residing in San Gabriel, CA, with a 5'10" 165 lb. frame. Mendoza was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase. Has a lean and athletic build on a medium frame. At the plate he starts with a wide stance and uses a no-stride lower half approach. Mendoza showed decent bat speed and good balance. His hands get a bit deep and are a little tied up. He is a good contact hitter and it really looks like something more is in his future with the bat. Defensively he is a very good player. Has a quick arm, quick feet, and a quick release. He is simply very good in the infield and his arm plays at SS with his quick release. Not a wide ranging type of SS with the footspeed but he takes good angles and gets a nice read on the ball off the bat. On the mound he pitched from a 3/4 slot and his arm works. On the arm side there was some run with his 82-84 mph FB. There was also some sharp action on his CB. His arm is quick but there was some effort in the delivery, suggesting that there may not be a whole lot of projectability. He uses solid mechanics and should stay healthy. Mendoza really competes and likes to play the game. He showed the ability to reach back and get that 84 mph when he wanted to. He truly has some potential as a two-way player at college level, though as a MIF that is tough to accomplish. Consider Mendoza a solid D1 prospect. Check back in the summer when he is facing top competition.
