2004 National Open Top Prospect Showcase
Kevin Madison is a solidly built 6'0" catcher from Bradenton, Florida, who impressed us with his all around skills. His defensive game is especially polished and it appears that he’s been very well coached in this aspect of the game. Madison’s actions are short, quick and efficient. He has good arm strength, topping out at 76 mph on his workout throws, and his quick, simple release left his pop times in the 1.9 sec. range and right on the second base bag. At the plate, Madison hits out of a crouched stance with a short, rotational swing. He has good strength in his hands and gets the bat head through the zone well. Madison’s approach isn’t going to produce big power numbers, but he makes consistent, hard contact to all fields and stays within himself well. Overall, Madison is a nice DI catching prospect who should get plenty of college offers. Kevin is an excellent student who qualifies at just about any school in the country.
