2005 Unsigned Seniors Showcase
Burch is a 6-1, 180 lb middle infielder from California who was one of the better prospects at the Unsigned Showcase. He has an athletic frame with good tone throughout. He had a good workout, running 7.18 on the slow track and throwing 83 mph in the infield while showing a smooth, effortless arm action and easy release. He moves well through the ball and had good range but tends to stand up too tall on occasion. Burch also showed his speed by running 4.40 to first base from the right side. At the plate, Burch hits from a balanced stance with a high hand set up and a line drive swing that has solid college level bat speed. He gets good torque from his lower body in his swing and showed some loft power on occasion. Burch also pitched a couple of innings and showed promise as a hurler as well. He topped out at 83 mph on his fastball but had one of the best change ups we’ve seen recently at 69-71 mph. It had excellent movement on it and was very deceptive. Burch also threw a 67-70 mph curveball and showed good pitching instincts. Burch is a strong student who should qualify to most schools.
