Bailey is a 6-3, 185 lb junior infielder from south Texas and one of the nice revelations of the showcase. He’s lanky and rangy and looks even taller than his listed height. Bailey’s strength is deceptive, though, and that really was obvious when he swung the bat. We ranked Bailey as one of the top dozen or so hitters at the event for both hitting ability and raw power. This young man really knows how to use his hands at the plate. Bailey showed us the ability to pull his hands through quickly on the inside pitch, but also cover the outside half as well. His bat speed is very good and is just going to get better as he gets stronger. If he ends up 6-5, 210 lbs and builds on his present hitting abilities, Bailey could be pretty special. Defensively, we saw two different players. In drills, Bailey must have been nervous or rushed because he struggled. During games he was a different player. He showed nice range at shortstop and very soft and quick hands on his transfers while making several hit saving plays. It’s easy to predict Bailey moving over to third base eventually but he showed us that he should be a good defensive player when he does. Bailey is also an excellent student off the field who should qualify at top academic schools.
