2025 PG National Underclass Showcase-Main Event Presented by GEICO
Jhonny Vasquez is a 2027 SS/RHP/3B with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from Davenport, FL who attends Florida Virtual. Lean young athletic build with some wiry strength and more to come. 6.89 runner in the sixty. Primary shortstop on defense that moves well and present arm strength. Gets to his spots well with good angels and a high three- quarter angle. Also threw an inning on the mound. Right-handed pitcher works from a full windup with a negative step into a belt-high leg lift and a longer, in-line stride down the mound. The hands start at the belt before rising to the letters and separating into a long takeaway before coming through from a low release height and an over-the-top angle. Live, quick arm with some feel to repeat. The fastball (2262 RPM) was low-to-mid-80s and topped out at 86 with some arm-side tail. Feel to work north and south in the zone and attacking with the fastball. Sweeping slider (2281 RPM) that has big horizontal sweep and more 10-4 shape. Right-handed hitter starts from a medium base with high hands and a high back elbow, utilizes a hover trigger. Releasing the barrel out front with a fast bat and comes off good to the pull-side when in rhythm. Hit well in game action and showed the power with a double to the base of the wall in right field.
