Gavin Helpingstine is a 2028 OF/RHP with a 6-0 185 lb. frame from Portage, IN who attends Brother Rice. Strong, athletic, high-waisted build with room to continue adding strength. 6.84 runner in the sixty. Right-handed hitter with a spread, open setup and an aggressive move that gets into the back leg and drives through contact. Produces hard line drives and firm contact to the middle of the field with bat speed and strength in the swing. Keeps a slight uphill path when on time and stays connected through the zone, showing consistent barrel feel in the round. Primary outfielder on defense, working through the ball with solid footwork and a crow-hop into throws. Slot gets lower at times with a more sidearm look and developing arm strength, showing some carry on throws and the ability to finish plays with pace when synced up. On the mound, works from the wind-up with a sidestep into tall-and-fall mechanics and a longer, loose arm action from a 3/4 slot. Fastball sat 74-79 and filled the strike zone, while the curveball showed 12-6 shape with depth and was used to keep hitters off the fastball. Named to the PG Chicago Indoor Showcase Top Prospect List. Good student.
