2006 National Showcase   Jun 16, 2006
PG Grade: 10
Jack McGeary is a 2007 left hand pitcher from Roxbury Latin School, residing in Newton, MA. McGeary has a strong, durable type build his a plus 6'3" 200 lb. frame. McGeary was one of the top long range prospects in the showcase and was ranked #21 among PG National Top 85 pitchers. He pitches from an over the top slot with an easy and quick arm action. McGeary creates leverage on the backside with some deep extension and an on-time delivery that allows him to get that good arm cranked up. His tempo is good and he did a nice job of repeating his delivery. McGeary's fastball was 87-91 mph with very good down angle and lively action in the zone. His fastball is good, but McGeary's best pitch is his 75-77 mph curveball. It is a plus pitch, with tight spin and good depth. McGeary's curveball is very similar in shape and size to David Wells' curveball... yes, it is that good. McGeary also has a 75-77 mph change-up with plus arm side movement. He can turn it over and showed very good feel of that pitch. McGeary has a power type arm and power body but the feel of a finesse lefty. His pitchability is good and his three pitch repertoire is quite good. As the spring moves along, McGeary is likely to be one of the more heavily scouted lefties in the '07 high school class. It is conceivable to see him going the college route too. In any case, whether he goes to school or is drafted highly this June, McGeary has a bright future.
