Ian Thompson is a 2006 RHP/OF from Claremont HS in San Diego, CA, with a 6'4", 205 lb. frame. Thompson was named to the top prospect team from the event as a pitcher. He is a strong, and durable RHP with a strong lower half. Thompson takes a small rocker step with a higher leg kick and stays balanced throughout his delivery. He has very good arm speed from a high 3/4 arm slot, and his fastball topped out at 85 mph. It is a heavy fastball with late tail and sink that he keeps down in the zone. Thompson also mixes in a tight and sharp breaking curveball at 69 mph with an 11 to 5 break. Offensively he is a right handed hitter with a crouched stance and balanced swing. Thompson has strength in his swing, and a good hand load. We think his future is on the mound where he goes after hitters with good stuff. He is also a very good student who needs to be followed closely.
