Joseph Winecoff is a 2009 RHP/1B with a 6'2'', 235 lb. frame from Hillsborough, NC who attends Orange HS. He has a big framed, thick body with plenty of present strength. Winecoff has a rotational delivery with a full back turn but he doesn't use all his lower body strength and pitches around his core, not with it. He has a short stride in front and under rotates his hips on release. Winecoff threw 78-80 mph with his fastball and left some velocity in his arm with his mechanics. He also tended to miss up frequently with his fastball because of his underrotation. His primary pitch was an upper 60's curveball that had a soft, early break but that was very consistent in it's shape and location and was effective. Winecoff also showed some raw power at the plate and would improve as a hitter with a better load and rhythm to the ball. He is a good student.
