Steven Messner is a 2008 LHP with a 6'1'', 185 lb. frame from Victorville, CA who attends Apple Valley Christian HS. He was selected as a Top Prospect at this event. Messner has a strong, athletically proportioned build. If he can gain some more polish he will emerge as one of the better spring signing period college prospects and has a chance to be as good as many of the early signing period players. He has a long and strong arm that works well from a high 3/4 slot. Messner works down the slope with good direction and gets out to nice extension. His fastball was 82-86 mph and he flashed plus movement. His curveball is a big rainmaker. He threw it with feel and it can upset timing and get an occasional swing and miss. Messner flashed a changeup and if he can mroe fully develop that pitch he has a chance to be starter at the D1 level. He seemed to tire later in his outing. If he can develop more stamina to hold his stuff longer he could be quite good.
